HOOK & LADDER COMPANY NO. 1

Hook & Ladder Co. #1 is the first and oldest company of the Babylon Fire Department.  Hook & Ladder was formed December 1^st 1877.  In November 2000, the Babylon Fire Dept. accepted an new ladder truck.  A 2000 Sutphen was put into service to replace a Ward La France that served our village since 1951.

Since Hook & Ladder was established hundreds of men and women have dedicated thousands of hours of service.

The members of Hook & Ladder Co. #1 are required to perform searches and ventilation at fire scenes.  Hook & Ladder members are cross-trained to do many things.  They are trained in heavy rescue and hose operations.  Many members are emergency medical technicians and are members of the rescue squad.

January 1983 the American La France Co. of Pennsylvania replaced the existing 75’ aerial ladder with a new 85’ ladder.  The truck went to Pennsylvania to have this work done. In March 1983 the company requested that the department memorial bell be refurbished so that it could be used at members’ funerals.

May 1985 the company held a dinner/dance at the Bergen Point Country Club to celebrate Anton Stecher’s 50 years of service.  In 1989 and In 1990 New Compliment of ground wooden ladders was purchased and placed on truck.
